Ahoy There.

Well, this is probably my last journal entry for this semester, and probably the year, so i figure make it a full one. and by full, i don't mean writing, i mean stuff to fill space.

I did two animatics for last week, and in finishing off my thesis pre-vis work today, i realized i never posted them. so here you are.

My class was cancelled last monday and i found myself with an abundance of time, so i was able finally iron out the timing of my scenes to the point where i was quite happy. Granted, the new timing means my composer has to rework his piece twice, as there are two pieces, each longer than the original.

There's actually big differences between these.

the first one (animatic 5) is about 2 and a half minutes, and focus more on the Robot as the primary villain, pushing the mad scientist, Dr. Skull, to a secondary role. It also includes the old west-style countershots that i've been talking about, and i think they work quite well. i'm going to have to put in some small movements to make them visually interesting, but i think it actually makes a small amount of tension. and i think it works quite well as a narrative.

the second one is about 2 minutes and 10 seconds, and puts Dr. Skull, in the driver seat as the villain, demoting the robot to a tool. Essentially, i just took out the old-west style shots between the robot and charger, threw 2 extra shots of Dr. Skull in, and extended the ones already in there. It makes it seem more like a battle of wills between hero and villain, which i like, but it may expect too much of the audience to know who's who and why they should care about the battle of wills beyond hero-vs.-villain.

truthfully, i'm leaning towards the first animatic, as i think it's more self-contained and easier to follow.

let me know what you guys think, and if i don't see ya on tuesday, Merry Christmas if ya celebrate that, Happy Chanukah if ya celebrate that, Happy something-else i might not know about, Happy New Year, and i'll see ya in late january.
